First off
Happy Birthday afterfox!!! :)
Secondly, A demo of ICE in Softimage XSI v 7. This is mostly for uckticoonox who was asking me about XSI's new ICE architecture. Basically, it allow for programming that you would normally do with Phyton, C or JavaScript to be done in a Node Based environment. |

Today at werk I should have worked on freight and transfers, but I needed to get caught up on paperwerk so I did. Did a lot of other stuff around the store too, but mostly I spent all day catching up on my papers from the last two weeks.
Chels popped up online last night at about 1:45AM. I was about to go to bed, but I ended staying up till 3 after she IM'd me. She wished me a happy belated birthday - been almost 2 months since I last saw her online.
She always seems to pop up at just the right times, whenever I need cheering up or someone to talk to. We caught up a little bit, though we were both starting to pass out at the computer and called it a night. It was good to hear from her though, and get some things off my mind. I miss that blue-haired foxie, she's one of my best friends.Current Mood: sleepy Current Music: Me eating dinner

Hi there. I've been absent from LJ for a few weeks now, will likely be for a few more, just popping my head in for a sec to mention I'm still alive, just working nearly nonstop.
Many of you are all too used to me complaining about my job, so I thought I'd mention it's actually going fairly well now. Crazy busy, ultra-stressful, all-consuming, but altogether not too bad for That Which Pays The Bills. Major site relaunch hits next week, after which will inevitably come a couple hellish weeks of firefighting. Sometime after that, I look forward to sleeping again.
Meanwhile, don't be offended if I remain LJ-oblivious for a while longer... |

C is weird as **** sometimes

I learned C++ in college a couple of years ago and I was never taught c but since most of the stuff I do is C based with C++ wrappers I figured I'd learn C. So here I am programming in C and I hit one of the weirdest errors I think I've ever seen. It took me a while to figure out wtf was up.
I have: #define NUM_THREAD_TASKS ARRAY_SIZE/NUM_THREADS and in the situation with the error NUM_THREAD_TASKS=10; I also have int thread which is the number of the thread. In my current test I have 3 threads and the problem happens with the last thread so thread=2; because numbering 0-2 instead of 1-3.
so: NUM_THREAD_TASKS=10; thread=2;
if I do:
i=thread*NUM_THREAD_TASKS; printf("%d\n",i);
the output is 21. 10*2 is 21 !?!?
but get this. If I do:
i=NUM_THREAD_TASKS*thread; printf("%d\n",i);
the output is 20. 10*2 is 20 !?!?
This is quite the error. It is simple to figure out. Since NUM_THREAD_TASKS is a float and everything else is an int it was bound to get funky eventually. I'll settle for:
i=thread*(int)NUM_THREAD_TASKS;
gaw some problems with programming are a major pain in the ass.
edit: turns out (int) doesn't work when you're doing an equation that deals with pointers. *sighs* I guess I'll go with the NUM_THREAD_TASKS*thread and hope things don't break. if not then i'll make a new var, probably global though because the point was to save memory by using a define. the less vars, the more free memory, and the faster the program runs. that and i plan on porting this code to cuda which is extremely memory restrictive being how small the cache is compared to a normal cpu. |

Twilight's seeing stars...

With 8+ hours left in the voting and Twilight down by 16 votes, it's time to figure out what to draw for Nevermint. As I did for all my previous opponents in the tournament, I get to draw his bunny Sinatra.
I was gonna ask for suggestions but I think I found an amusing one. Wish I'd brought my big sketchbook with me, I'd draw it up over lunch.
I am amused by the irony of the matchup, Twilight downed by his former inspiration in an epic Bunny Battle. But it's all good. Not like I'm gonna quit suiting or leave fandom! In two weeks I'll have been furry for 18 years.
More meaningful or interesting content later... |

Future cons

Hey y'll, just making a little update USA furcons for the rest of the year and into January.
When it comes to MFF I have one spot open. Current peeps who will be sharing the room with me include Stria and Ginger Vixen. I would like to have another suitor in the room so if anyone is out there and needs a room, please ask me. (on hold)
Now if anyone wants to join the road trip to MFF this year please let me know as well, a nice 14 hour road trip across baron lands with little to no trees. Currently have Gimore and Phor. Gona try and find a nice mini-van to trek across the land. So if anyone wants to join in, let me know as well. If we get a nice packed car the cheaper the gas will be.
NOW! FC is currently full unless you want to sleep on the floor. Currently I have Fritz and Freefox plus PupE in the room. We might have a room party or two, hell I don't know, I just hope it dies down early.
So cheers one and all! Be seeing y'll at EF in about a month! Look out for the secret suit, done by LV, who will be showing up there. |

well my build of XP 64 bit was slowly crumbling. Not sure what the problem was but at first it was just the netframework not working or installing. When i tried to fix that the whole windows installer broke which made installing just about anything impossible after that. So it came down to either reinstalling XP x64 and chancing that it wouldn't freeze me at boot up (since i was working on a cracked trail) or installing vista x64. I went with the latter and just as my expectations suspected it went entirely smooth through out installing to getting to the desktop. Everything works though somehow I broke the mirror I had set up on my two new hard drives and when I set it back up again I did it wrong so it had nothing on it. Ah well least it was only a few days old and I hadn't put much of anything new on there since FA's been down and I haven't saved any new pictures on the drive.
Still the only problem I run into is my sound card. Frelling Creative Labs has to hide its EAX console from download. So while I can get the driver to my sound card and have it all work I can't set up the true surround sound for my speakers but they do have Alchemy which is a little program that allows true EAX to work while i'm gaming again which is available for vista. Well ain't that convenient?
Oh, and I forgot to backup my bookmarks for firefox before deleting the old partition. Whoops, there goes a few extra links to FA that i'll have to scrounge for again.Current Mood: blah

I got to play around with a 40D, and while it was a solid camera, it had enough quirks that I didn't immediately fall in love with it, and the sale expired, which was kind of a bummer.
So instead I got a D200, with an 18-200 DX VR zoom, and an SB-800 speedlight (Which is probably twenty times the flash I'd ever need).
Now, to spam the tracking number for updates. :P |

And on the 46th day, he slept...

"ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz..."
Discovery Channel Fact:The California Sabertooth Cat suffers the same consequences of exhaustion that most humans do: long naps on the couch and lots of cold beer.
Far Wolf: "Stupid cats. Why study for your PE exam when you can nap on the couch after drinking all my goddamn beer?"
46 days since this slew of chaos began. That’s how long it’s been since I’ve really had a decent break.
This was the first major project I’ve ever undertaken, the first part of many parts that are to take place over the course of this summer. Two full weeks at sea, where every mechanical failure that could have occurred did occur. After three weeks worth of 16-hour days and overcoming non-stop mechanical issues, we did something that has never been done before.
We now have the worlds most unique and advanced system working at 100% capability. I still can’t believe we made what was once science fiction a reality, and I truly can’t believe that I was a part of it.
Though it sucks I missed Anthrocon (I will be there next year!), the tradeoff in opportunity was necessary and fair. It was an once-in-a-lifetime chance to be a part of something unique; and I simply couldn’t pass it by.
Thanks so much for the voicemails and countless slew of text-messages I received from friends telling me to "F#*k first class, get your ass out to AC!" All of them brought a smile; all of them gave me warmth while I was working in the cold of night. Thanks everyone for helping to keep me inspired.
I’ve seen some amazing things in the past few weeks. Incredible science, and a fascinating journey through some of the deepest, darkest reaches of our world. I’m almost there…the light at the end of the tunnel is rapidly approaching. Support is coming out of the corners of our office, offering hands of help—and a chance to alleviate some of the tremendous burden.
 A small glimpse into the unknown of the deep ocean, very much what I’ve been looking into the past few weeks.
It’s an interesting and indescribable phenomena, this furry thing is. I really don’t know how to put it into words, except to say that somehow, it keeps a different and colorful piece of my soul locked away from all the politics, technology, science and exhaustion created by my job. Simply knowing you folks exist puts a spring to my step. I just don’t know how else to describe it.
Anyway, I have lasted the better part of the storm. Currently, I’m in stasis. The boat is offshore, the effort currently lead by my counterpart. I’m trying to get in what little relaxation I can while I have the time available.
I purchased my tickets for MFF in Chicago, as United seemed to have a fairly good rate going. Plus I upgraded to first-class, just for the hell of it (hahahaha! That’s right; I did it anyway!)
To say that I miss my girl, jilduck, would be making an enormous understatement. My affection for her has grown considerably in past weeks. Through our many hours of weekly conversation, she has patiently endured my many worried thoughts of work and politics. Although we currently live 1500 miles apart, the nightly calls, letters, and random thinking-of-you gifts have been passing the days quickly between when we get to see each other again.
I really love this girl, and I simply can’t wait to see her again.
I leave you with a particularly beautiful picture my girlfriend commissioned of the two of our characters together. I’ve never had anyone do anything like this with one of my characters. Furry or no, it’s beautiful all the same.
 A beautiful commission by jilduck of Far Outhere and Saskia, done by the extremely talented trufflehog (a.k.a. Louve)
The light at the end of the tunnel is approaching quickly. It won’t be long until I get to see you all again...
Best of love to all for your support,
~FaR~Current Mood: busy Current Music: "Pepper", Butthole Surfers

I'm totally digging this song that's available for download in Rock Band. It's super fun rocking out to it on guitar, super fun on drums, and super fun and challenging to SING... Perfecte Welle by Juli
I sing along phonetically to Gaelic and Japanese songs all the time, even though I don't have any idea what the hell I'm singing about, and I'm pretty sure I do it wrong. With German, I have a slight idea of what I'm singing about, but I'm still pretty sure I'm doing it wrong. If English butchered by Japanese speakers is called Engrish, is German butchered by English speakers called Dewtch?
Here's the same video with English subtitles. |
